Susanne Gervay is a children’s book author, journalist and speaker. Her latest picture book is Ships in the Field, a book that draws on her own experiences as the daughter of refugees in Australia.
Susanne’s “Jack” books – I Am Jack, Super Jack and Always Jack – have become bestsellers and are recommended by a number of children’s organisations for their exploration of school bullying. I Am Jack was shortlisted for a number of awards and received a Notable Award in the 2009 Children’s Book Council Awards. The “Jack” books have also been adapted into a play and translated into several languages. She is also well known for her young adult novels, Butterflies and The Cave. She has also published short stories in several anthologies for adults.
As creative director of the Hughenden Hotel, Susanne has also played an instrumental role in building Sydney’s literary community. Regular literary events are held at the hotel including the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators conference.
